Boca Tapada is a small town located along the San Carlos River, around 38 kilometres north of Boca Tapada. Maquenque is a newly created Nature Reserve soon to become a National park. The area itself still maintains the typical rural countryside atmosphere Costa Rica has had over the last 70 years.

 

The are has also strongly recovered from logging during the  80s and therefore both culture and nature combine to create a highly interesting and picturesque framework.,

The area is highly popular for birders, since the Great Green Macaw can be sighted almost everyday.
